The artist as a writer, editor and publisher; the book as exhibition space and independent artwork. In 2012, Stefanie Hammann and Maria von Mier founded their publishing house Hammann & von Mier to curate and publish artist books. In June 2013 in the AkademieGalerie München, the founders opened Sandy's Books 'n' Burgers, a temporary bookshop for artist books that included an exhibition, artzine release, a book fair, lecture, performance, open studio, disco, bar, and burger dinner. Shortly thereafter, they became part of the temporary-use cultural project Haeppi Piecis with their store at Maximilianstrasse 33. As part of the "Festival of Independents", Hammann & von Mier present their own work and a selection of book editions by a number of young artists in an environment of wooden elements that recalls an upward curve or a winner's podium.

"Success is closer then ever" is written on a business card that the artists found in New York – a sentence that accurately describes the motivation of an entire city. The almost unnoticeable misspelling is irritating and creates a distance toward the statement. The discrepancy between claim and reality that is at play here also describes the artists' mentality, which oscillates between the will to succeed and ironic self-assessment. Taking what you can, continuously delivering, and always looking good. That is the art of high performance! Everything for fame!
